Schepenhuis & Belfort van Aalst

GROTE MARKT

The statue of Dirk Martens (1446-1534), first printer in the Netherlands stay on the Grand Place of Aalst. The Schepenhuis (Aldermen's House) of Aalst is aformer City Hall, one of the oldest in the Low Countries, dating originally from 1225. The current carillon, the sixth installed since the original, has 52 bells.
