ESQUELBECQ

Esquelbecq (from Dutch: Ekelsbeke) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. It has 2200 inhabitants and covers 1195 hectares. It has retained its authentic Flemish caracter. It is crossed from west to east by the Yser, a famous small coastal river. The river is lined with many oak trees, which gave the name of the village. The Flemish wordt "Ekelsbeke" means "acorn-stream".
