ABBAYE DU VAL-DIEU
ABBAYE DU VAL-DIEU
Val-Dieu Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery in the Berwinne valley near Aubel in the Land of Herve. In 1216 a few monks from Hocht, A part of Lanaken, near Maastricht, settled in the uninhabited valley which was part of the border between the duchy of Limburg and the county of Dalhem. They called their settlement Vallis Dei (French: Val-Dieu; English: Valley of God).
