Historic Belfry - Part of UWH

BEFFROI DE BERGUES

Listed as a Historic Monument in 2004 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, Bergues' belfry was rebuilt in 1961 following the destruction that occurred during the Second World War. The belfry was damaged by fire in 1940 and destroyed by dynamiting four years later. Its structure replicates the architectural lines of the previous structure, which had already been rebuilt in the 14th century following the French invasion of Bergues.
