Musée National de la Renaissance

CHÂTEAU D'ÉCOUEN

The Château d'Écouen, in Écouen, north of Paris, was built in 1538-50 for Anne de Montmorency. He had inherited the château in 1515, and his building campaigns were informed by his first-hand experience in overseeing royal works at Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Fontainebleau. Following an idea of André Malraux it was thoroughly renovated in order to house the Museum of the renaissance.
