ABBAYE SAINT-JULIEN DE NOUAILLÉ-MAUPERTUIS

Located in a wooded valley, Nouaillé Maupertuis is a site of exceptional interest because of its 12th century fortified abbey and medieval vestiges. The defeat of the King of France, Jean the Good, took place here in 1356 and was a decisive event during the Hundred Year's War. From the end of the 12th century, the monastery felt the damage of the revolts against the Plantagenets followed by the Hundred Year War between the French and the English.
