Originally named the Hôtel d'Angoulême when it was built around 1585, it was bought in 1658 by Lamoignon.
The mansion currently houses the Historical Library of the City of Paris. It offers for public consultation a collection dating from the 16th century to the present, composed of about a million books and booklets and 21,000 manuscripts.
