The place du Vieux-Marché has changed greatly since Joan's time. In the Middle-Ages, it was much smaller and part of this space was occupied by the Church of the Holy Saviour, St. Michael's Church and by the market hall. The stake and fire were placed here, since this was the habitual place for executions in Rouen.
