The Cathedral Basilica of St Denis is a large abbey church in the commune of Saint-Denis. The abbey church was created a cathedral in 1966 and is the seat of the Bishop of Saint-Denis. The building is of unique importance historically and architecturally. Saint Denis is a patron saint of France and, according to legend, was the first bishop of Paris.
