The County and Diocesan Museum of Solsona was created in 1896, under the Diocese of Solsona, to preserve the heritage of the diocese by Bishop Ramon Riu i Cabanes. In 1909 under the direction of Joan Serra i Vilaró, the museum moved to its current building of the eighteenth century Bishop's Palace, located next to the cathedral. It opened, renovated in 1983 with the name of County and Diocesan Museum of Solsona.
